Trump is a bad egg

To the editor: He counted his chickens before they hatched. His followers trusted his lies. He went to his safehouse and from there he watched. Not caring who lives or who dies. He should be in prison, not running for POTUS. I guess we all need a reminder. Women are now chattle because of his SCOTUS. Need more? Let me read from my binder. He told us, “Drink poison, scoff masks, breathe the air.” He told us we’d come to no harm. He jeered at vaccines from his hospital chair, Once he’d been shot in the arm. His charity false, his university ...

Disturbing rhetoric

To the editor: Former President Donald J. Trump recently promoted another most concerning version of his totally baseless, and most troubling, allegations that, reportedly, as a result of unsealed FBI documents that FBI agents who were assigned to search Trump’s Mar-A-Lago estate in Florida in 2022 had allegedly been instructed to use deadly force against the former president, as well as those who might have attempted to impede their recovery of classified documents that Trump had inappropriately removed from the White House and had kept in his possession, and that he had somehow ...

NOW launches election activities

To the editor: The upcoming election cycle promises to be one of the most important in our lifetimes. So many issues will be at the forefront of political campaigns, especially those important to women and our quality of life now and in the future. I was honored to have been elected this year to the office of president of Ohio Valley NOW, a local chapter of the National Organization for Women. Together with a new group of leaders and our current members, we strive to maintain and grow our group as the most active chapter in the state of Ohio. Since 2021, Ohio Valley NOW has ...

Don’t repeat history

To the editor: Nearly 14 years ago and seven terms in Congress, a Republican candidate promised many things to help the average resident of Eastern Ohio. All these years later, this congressman recently quit Congress to take a lucrative job in a Northeast Ohio college before his term expired at the end of this year. What did we get for his almost 14 years of electing this Republican candidate? What did we get for his many years of empty promises? Well, he sponsored only a handful pieces of legislation in 14 years while earning nearly $3 million in Congressional wages and ...

Many made cleanup a success

To the editor: More than 80 people, businesses and many community organizations pitched in to clean up the Labelle area of Steubenville on May 14. Fifteen tons of garbage was removed from the area at no charge to the city. In addition to the many individual volunteers, the planning and completion of this project would not have been possible without the following: JB Green Team and Anita Petrella; Dane Watkins and the Eastern Ohio Regional Correction Center release workers; Environmental Enforcement Officer and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy Ben Swoyer and workers from the ...

A grand reunion

To the editor: Since Memorial Day is upon us. I thought I would relate a soldier’s story told to me by Caesar Panebianco. Panebianco was the past proprietor of the old Rudy’s Bar on South Sixth Street. He also was on the board of the Antonucci State Bank on Sixth and South streets, which now is the location of a controversial club. When he returned home after World War II, he stepped off the train at the Pennsylvania Railroad Station on Sixth Street. He decided to walk across Market Street to the Smokestack Bar. The Smokestack Bar was rather long. When the freight trains ...
