A grand reunion

1 min read

To the editor:

Since Memorial Day is upon us. I thought I would relate a soldier's story told to me by Caesar Panebianco.

Panebianco was the past proprietor of the old Rudy's Bar on South Sixth Street. He also was on the board of the Antonucci State Bank on Sixth and South streets, which now is the location of a controversial club.

When he returned home after World War II, he stepped off the train at the Pennsylvania Railroad Station on Sixth Street. He decided to walk across Market Street to the Smokestack Bar.

The Smokestack Bar was rather long. When the freight trains rolled by, the whiskey bottles would shake.

When he opened the door of the building and looked at the far end of the bar, there on the floor was his dog. Panebianco whistled and yelled, "Butch." The dog looked up and ran at full speed, knocking Panebianco down.

What a good reunion after being gone four years.
