To the editor:
More than 80 people, businesses and many community organizations pitched in to clean up the Labelle area of Steubenville on May 14. Fifteen tons of garbage was removed from the area at no charge to the city.
In addition to the many individual volunteers, the planning and completion of this project would not have been possible without the following: JB Green Team and Anita Petrella; Dane Watkins and the Eastern Ohio Regional Correction Center release workers; Environmental Enforcement Officer and Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputy Ben Swoyer and workers from the community service and jail release program; Village of Wintersville Public Works Department; Wintersville Mayor Mike Petrella; Economy Lawn Care; Julie Martinez, Rhonda Stinson Peach and the Steubenville Municipal Court Community Service Program; the Steubenville Pride Committee -- First Ward Councilman Dave Albaugh and Third Ward Councilwoman Heather Hoover; Mark and Gretchen Nelson of Nelson Fine Art and Gifts; Ross Ivkovich of the Steubenville High School Key Club; Affordable Tree Service -- Veronica and Harold Leak; Amanda Krupinski and Interstate Waste Services (Apex Landfill); City of Steubenville -- Robert Baird; Steubenville Mayor Jerry Barilla; Steubenville Code Enforcement Officer Tom Dorsey; Steubenville Police Chief Kenny Anderson; Mark Teramana and Team Toyota; Tim Turner and Heather Dock and Steel Valley Regional Transit Authority; Jimmy Saltsman and Fort Steuben Maintenance; and Kiwanis Club Members Gene Zrinyi and Taylor Steeves.
I would like to thank the groups that provided food and lunch for the volunteers: Steve Davis and Steve's Fish and Chips; Trent Nicholson from Panhandle Cleaning and Restoration; J.D. DiCarlo and JD Distributors; and the Rev. Dan Copeland and the Agape Community Church for preparing the food.
I am extremely grateful for all those who stepped up and donated time or supplies in any way. The Labelle section of Steubenville is much cleaner, safer and more beautiful and, most important, a healthier neighborhood for our children to play and our families to live in.
