Govey-Allen, the late Osby get HOF nod
On June 13, the late Don Osby and Suzanne Govey-Allen were the first two Steubenville Big Red athletes to be inducted into Ohio’s Eastern District Coaches Association Track and Cross Country Hall of Fame at the 10th annual banquet at the Prichard Laughlin Center in Cambridge. The late Mr. Osby died in 2018, the same year he was inducted into the OVAC Hall of Fame. He won the state class AA championship long jump in 1966 and 1967 and ran on a valley record setting 4×400 relay team. Highly recruited, Osby signed with Iowa as a receiver and earned three varsity letters. Govey-Allen, left, was presented her honor by Roger Micker, right. She was a three-time state champion in the 800 and two-time state champion on the 4×440 relay team. In 1986 she was selected as the Eastern District female track athlete of the year. As a stellar runner for Akron University’s track and cross country teams she was selected to serve as captain four times, NCAA Woman of the Year for the university, and recognized by the Ohio Senate for her lifelong commitment to athletic excellence.
