Fort Steuben DAR has successful year

STEUBENVILLE — The Fort Steuben Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, completed a successful 2025-26 year.

At the last meeting they welcomed veteran of the month Lance Cpl. Tabatha Herchuck. Herchuck served with the Marines during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

Weirton Elementary School counselor, Stacy Cullinan spoke with chapter members about the school’s focus on the health and well-being of each child.

During the 2025-26 year, the Fort Steuben Chapter welcomed four new members who are already involved in chapter programs. New member Stacey Porter is coordinating the chapter’s float for the Weirton Independence Day parade. Art students from Weir High School created a replica of the Liberty Bell which will be featured on the float.

Winners of the chapter’s scholarship contest were announced. Jamie Morrissett from Weir High School and Bailee Beall from Brooke High School were the winners this year. Thanks to Melinda Young, Shana Wydra and Patti D’Aurora for conducting the contest.

DAR welcomes anyone who may be interested in joining. Women over 18 years old who can prove that they are a direct descendant from an American Revolutionary War patriot, are eligible for membership. The next meeting will be at noon on Sept. 12 at Gio’s Restaurant in Weirton.
