Steubenville road work to impact Sunset Blvd., downtown alleys
STEUBENVILLE — The city will begin multiple street resurfacing and utility projects starting Monday and continuing throughout the week, resulting in lane restrictions, overnight paving and parking restrictions across several areas, according to the city engineer’s office.
From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and continuing throughout the week, Sunset Boulevard from Efts Lane to Welday Avenue will be reduced to one lane. The lane closure is expected to last several weeks.
The work is needed for an AT&T subcontractor to perform adjustments to manhole frame castings tied to the Sunset Boulevard resurfacing project.
Motorists are advised to slow down, use caution and be alert for changing traffic patterns in the construction zone.
The city will also continue its 2026 Community Development Block Grant street resurfacing program beginning at 7 a.m. Monday and continuing daily throughout the week, weather permitting.
The project includes placement of a new hot mix asphalt surface course on Greenfield Avenue from Arden Avenue to Woodland Avenue, Alton Avenue from Woodland Avenue to Lincoln Boulevard and Woodland Avenue from Greenfield Avenue to Alton Avenue.
City officials said the affected streets will be posted “No Parking” at least one day in advance. Vehicles left on the roadway will be towed at the owner’s expense.
Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes to avoid delays.
The project is being completed by NLS Paving Inc. of St. Clairsville and is funded through Community Development Block Grant funds provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, along with 0.7% city income tax revenue.
Additionally, the city will begin its downtown alley resurfacing project beginning Sunday evening and continuing nightly throughout the week from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., weather permitting.
Work will include milling existing asphalt and placing a hot mix asphalt intermediate leveling course on Court Street Alley from Washington Street to South Street and Commercial Street Alley from North Street to South Street.
A final asphalt surface will be placed later in the project. The completion date for the overall project is scheduled for July 17, 2026.
City officials said “No Parking” signs will be posted at least one day in advance, and vehicles in violation will be towed at the owner’s expense.
