JVS thanks area voters

To the editor: The Nov. 7 election had a positive result for the Jefferson County Joint Vocational School. The half-mill levy passed, and we appreciate the support for the programs that we provide to the students. The outstanding teachers, staff, board members, community members and administration say thank you on behalf of the many thousands of students who have been served by the training at the JVS. As the Career Technical Planning District, the JVS serves the career technical students in the local districts. We appreciate that the students choose to come to the JVS. The many ...

Our world is dangerous

To the editor: Dinosaurs — extinction — an asteroid impact caused large-scale climate change, so says science. The sad part is that there is no fairy-tale to the end of time. The history of the world is based on racial hatred, color, language and appearance. Benjamin Netanyahu and Israel are at war, and President Joe Biden goes to Israel to show his support. Maybe they should tone down their rhetoric. It’s a dangerous world. Peace through strength always is a threat. Feed the hungry and clothe the poor — a hungry man is mightier than the sword. One word that’s ...

Pressure to tip is out of control

To the editor: Check this out — it’s back in the news again, “tipflation.” A recent report out said Americans are being pressured to tipping. Also, according to pymnts.com, in an article dated Monday, reported 34 percent of consumers say the pressure to tip is out of control. First it is inflation, and how the prices of consumer goods have risen during the past year. Second, we have shrinkflation of food packages that have been reduced during the past year. And now there is tipflation from tip-suggestion order screens, Door Dash pre-tip and convenience charges. More ...

Can you support loser Trump?

To the editor: Last Saturday was Veterans Day, formerly known as Armistice Day, celebrating the armistice with Germany that ended World War I. So, what else happened last Saturday? Well, the wannabe-dictator Donald Trump held a rally and called everyone outside his cult “vermin.” He said he was going to build camps and have the military round up people and put them in these camps. Boy does this sound like Putin and Hitler? Apparently, he thinks the military will be his? In 2018 he visited France for the centennial anniversary of the end of World War I. He said he didn’t ...

Sad state under Biden

To the editor: This is the third year of Joe Biden’s America. What is the state of our republic? Foreign policy was supposed to be one of Biden’s areas of expertise, so how is that working out? The withdrawal from Afghanistan was a disaster. We lost 13 young service personnel. We left billions of dollars of equipment, which is now being used by the Taliban. We left behind Americans and those who helped Americans, while bringing unvetted young men to our country. We have sent billions of dollars to Ukraine with no accounting where the money has been spent. Biden waited several ...

Standing for the 99 percent

To the editor: Among the cherished rules in many families is no politics during the holiday season at the table. In between the mashed potatoes and the gravy, I wanted to talk about a bit about the Mountain State West Virginia children have the second highest rate of poverty in the nation. When all people have been included, Baby Dog’s home state ranks third in the country for the number of folks below the poverty line. On Jan. 20, 2021, the day President Joe Biden took office in the United States at the end of Republican President Donald Trump’s term in office: According to a ...
