No one really fought for mill

To the editor: The original date for the idling of the Weirton tin mill was April 16, but that has been changed to April 20. This is the result of the International Trade Commission’s ruling of Feb. 6. This action caused the owner of Cleveland-Cliffs to suspend operations and idle the plant on Feb. 16. Both the local news outlets and papers carried Sen. Joe Manchin’s, D-W.Va., visit to Weirton, on April 4, where he first visited the Form Energy facility, which is under construction. Afterward, he stopped at the USW Local 2911, where he spoke with a representative of ...

Will Veterans Bridge be closed?

To the editor: I’m giving the Veterans Memorial Bridge an 80 percent chance of being shut down in the next two months, probably by mid-summer at the latest. With all the increased traffic, lane closures and accidents happening, it seems like they’re trying to figure out what to do about the structural problems without telling anyone. Mark my words, steer clear of that bridge. They shut down the Fort Steuben Bridge and never did a darn thing to fix its problems. What makes anyone think the Veterans Bridge is any better? Democrats make good ice cream

To the editor: Democrats know how to make good ice cream. There is no doubt about it. Just the other day I mused over a broad selection of ice cream at a major grocery outlet. Previously content with a lower-priced brand, I thought maybe this time I’d try something pricier. Oh my gosh, there it was, the priciest brand in the freezer featuring a broad variety of flavors. Cherries, cookies and salt caramel were available from the wide assortment. I settled for some salt caramel. Man, was that ice cream ever good. Who is responsible for this delectable creation I wondered? ...

EGCC legacy will live on

To the editor: Human beings have the gift of attributing life and meaning to inanimate things. We love our country, our cars, our land. We love our schools; our alma maters mean much to us. So, as our community works through the loss of Jeff Tech-Jefferson Community College-Eastern Gateway Community College, there is also much grief and sadness among current and former employees. Not just grief over the loss of jobs, but a feeling that the legacy of many dedicated and caring employees has been lost as well. “Our legacy is gone,” I expressed to another retiree, a faculty ...

Not really a masquerade

To the editor: Finally admitting what was only a masquerade as a devout Catholic, in a taped interview President Joe Biden proudly proclaimed, “I don’t believe in the Catholic doctrine concerning abortion,” suggesting that his government would be the determiner of what was acceptable belief. Biden, denying the Apostolic Didache as lies, and even the Ten Commandments, existing for more than 3,300 years, as being no longer valid, finally publicly revealed his disdain for the religion he claims to follow, boasting of his “denial of the importance or even existence of religious ...

Trump’s behavior not Christian-like

To the editor: Last week was the holiest week of the year for Christians. On May 5, Orthodox Christians will celebrate Pascha saying Christ is Risen. But what else happened last week? It took me a week to calm down before trying to put it into words. The wannabe dictator and con man, Donald Trump, had the guts to peddle his Bible for $60, just two days before Good Friday. What kind of low-life would do this? Certainly not a Christian. He wanted to build a wall to keep people from coming to the United States who walked for months in hopes of a better life. He took children from ...
