To the editor:
Last week was the holiest week of the year for Christians. On May 5, Orthodox Christians will celebrate Pascha saying Christ is Risen.
But what else happened last week? It took me a week to calm down before trying to put it into words. The wannabe dictator and con man, Donald Trump, had the guts to peddle his Bible for $60, just two days before Good Friday. What kind of low-life would do this? Certainly not a Christian.
He wanted to build a wall to keep people from coming to the United States who walked for months in hopes of a better life. He took children from parents and put them in cages. He now calls them vermin and animals because according to him they "aren't humans." I don't remember any Bible stories that Jesus said certain groups of people aren't human.
He called white supremacists good people, and as he attempted a coup to stay in power, the vigilantes that beat the police at the capital he called patriots. I don't recall Jesus commanding his disciples to threaten and beat anyone as he was spreading his words of love and kindness.
Jesus said to spread love, feed and clothe the poor and give them shelter with no exceptions. The wannabe says to build the wall to keep out those that don't look like him and take away programs that give shelter, feed children and spread the hate that comes from his mouth. And don't forget he wants to get rid of Social Security and Medicare.
I am by far not the most religious person but my heart aches when so many people go to church on Sunday and the rest of the week agree with the wannabe. I think God gave us a brain for a purpose and taught us right from wrong. I wonder if God is testing us.
