Logical conclusion

To the editor: The logical conclusion of life’s expectancy — it will be long. Zip to 60. Maybe some will make expectancy — some die at birth, some make 100. Twenty is too young, 30 as well. Fifty is not bad — can’t do much after that. Maybe watch the stars or take a walk in the park. Don’t want to stay too long — many of my friends will be gone. Best to go peacefully. It will not be bad, heaven is waiting. Fear nothing, God said. Steve Kopa Weirton

Brown steps up for constituents

To the editor: Having served as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives, one of my main responsibilities was doing constituent work. In order for me to settle an estate for a relative, I needed specific information from a department of the federal government. I filed the necessary paperwork, however two pieces were missing. After re-sending those to the proper department nearly a year went by without hearing anything. I then contacted Kaleb Knowlton in Sen. Sherrod Brown’s local office. The very next day I received a call from Joseph Henry in Brown’s Columbus office. ...

Judge disagrees with opinion

To the editor: In the April 3 edition of the Herald-Star, an editorial was published, “License suspensions need a closer look.” The gist of the opinion was that when the courts block an individual’s ability to renew or obtain a driver’s license for nonpayment of fines and costs that it adversely effects an offender’s ability to seek and maintain employment and that it disproportionately effects the “poor” and “people of color.” Before courts impose fines and costs, an ability to pay analysis is conducted to determine the economic resources of the offender. ...

Especially not Miller

To the editor: I’m a Democrat in Ohio. The West Virginia governor’s race doesn’t impact my life, but I have friends and family in the Mountain State who I want the best for. To that end, I wish there was a viable Democrat running to replace Jim Justice as governor, but there simply isn’t. Let’s face it, the only things the lone Democrat vying for office, Huntington Mayor Steve Williams, have going for him is he’s a native son with governing experience and he’s not a nepo-baby. But he’s probably going to lose to either notorious carpetbagger from Brooklyn (yes, that ...

Biden continues to spread lies

To the editor: Joe Biden said in his State of the Union speech, “Give me power to close the border, I can save lives.” He acknowledged his open borders are killing Americans. The Wall Street Journal on April 10 stated we are paying 36.5 percent more for groceries then we did under Trump and it’s up 3.5 percent for March. How’s Bidenomics working for you? Democrats can’t spin Biden’s 2020 policies that are closing thousands of businesses, laying off millions of workers — in 2022, many laid-off workers were rehired, and in 2023 Biden calls it record growth. Biden ...

When does life begin?

To the editor: Science confirms that at the very moment of conception, a genetically unique human being is created, with DNA different than the mom and dad and anyone else. The unborn life is not a “part” of a women’s body like a kidney or lung. The unborn child is a unique human being living inside of the mother, a person different than any person who ever lived or will live, with the mother supplying nutrition and oxygen. You and I, and all of the people we know, began our lives at the very moment of conception. With this fact established, then it is also a fact that ...
