How was your Mother’s Day?
To the editor: Like a lot of folks my age, Mother’s Day is a complicated time. It marks the loss of the person who was always in your corner. No matter how tough the opponent was or how badly beaten emotionally or physically, she had always been there to apply ointments or prepare a bowl of chicken soup. In my case, it was the anniversary of her 2007 surgery, which her strong will carried through all almost dying in the operating room, the way my father had in 2004, three years earlier.
