Steubenville Police

No place for kids: Police found a woman sitting at the top of her steps screaming, Saturday. They said she continued to scream as she tried to tell them what had taken place, and they told her several times “to calm down and stop screaming” but she didn’t. Police gleaned that her boyfriend had come upstairs yelling obscenities at her, “then attempted to kick her and ripped a phone out of her hand” so she threw a flashlight at him, hitting his foot. She didn’t want to pursue charges so police told the couple to separate for the night. Children in the home were sent to another location for the night after police took notice of conditions in the home, which they described as deplorable. Police said there was “trash all over the steps and hallways” with animal feces on the floors. The dining area had “piles of trash and dog feces on the floor,” the kitchen sink was overflowing with “dirty, molded dishes that still had old food in them.” The only light switch in the room had exposed wiring, and police said there was more trash “all over the hallway floor” upstairs. They said the woman was belligerent throughout the interaction and “attempted to start cleaning the residence,” throwing items and continuing to scream.

Cause and effect: A man in the 100 block of North Fourth Street complained that he had been assaulted by his girlfriend and the mother of his child, Saturday. The woman told police they’re in a relationship but he suffers from what she described “ongoing drug abuse” and has a tendency to become upset over the slightest of matters.” She said they’d been arguing and he kicked her out of the apartment so she walked down the hall to a friend’s place, but he followed her there and after arguing some more spit on her and the woman she was visiting “beat his (backside).” Police said the male did have some injuries to his face and neck, but he’d gone in his apartment and refused to cooperate.

Mouthing off: A juvenile accused her mother of smacking her across the face “due to several comments she made” to her, Friday. Her mother admitted she smacked the child because of what the girl had said to her. Police told the juvenile she can’t talk to her mother like that and sent her to her room for the night.
