Students honored by Brooke board
WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Board of Education recognized several students during Monday’s meeting.
Top finishers for Brooke Middle and Brooke High schools in the state Technology Student Association competition include Jimmy DeMaria, who finished second in flight. He also was selected as TSA state treasurer for the 2026-27 school year. That made him the first student from Brooke County to hold an officer’s position in that organization.
Liam Friend and DeMaria finished first in problem solving and third in drones, while Quentin Toth and Spencer Brink were first in video game design and second in coding.

Members of the Brooke Middle School wrestling team, which finished third in the PAC 8, were recognized.
Honored were Pierce Jones (72 pounds), Westin Morton (215 pounds) and Nathan Rawson (285 pounds), first place finishers; Elijah Nichols (145 pounds), second place; and Zach Lyons (94 pounds) and Brentley Ficca (128 pounds), third place,
Honored from the boys basketball team were Andrew Murdock, Grant Yost and Crosby Morris, who were selected to the Buckeye 8 All-Conference Team. Murdock and Yost also earned first-team OVAC Class 5A recognition, while Morris was a second-team selection. Murdock was a second-team choice while Yost and Morris were third-team selections on the All-Valley team.
Murdock also earned Class AAA All-State honorable mention.
Honored from the girls basketball team were Madie Bowman, who earned All-Buckeye 8 recognition. Bowman was a first-team All-OVAC 5A selection while Keira Kosut was a second-team honoree.
Kaylee Tuttle, Alex Obeldobel and Jason Beliveau were recognized for their first-team selections to the All-Valley bowling team. Tuttle and Obeldobel were selected for OVAC Class 5A All-Conference honors.
Landon Burdine was recognized for a second-place finish in OVAC Class 5A wrestling, while Anthony Maple was honored for a sixth-place finish. Burdine finished third in state wrestling, while Maple was sixth.
Several members of the swimming team were recognized, including Faith Farrell, who was the Buckeye 8 champion in the 50 and 100 freestyle events; OVAC Class 5A champion in the 50 freestyle and second in the 100 freestyle; sixth place in the 50 freestyle and seventh place in the 100 freestyle at the state level; and first-team OVAC in the 50 freestyle and second-team in the 100 freestyle. She also earned academic all-American status
Lindsey Kettler was honored for claiming Buckeye 8 championships in the 200 freestyle and 100 fly events; finishing third in the OVAC Class 5A 200 freestyle and second in the 100 fly; finishing fourth in the state in 200 freestyle and fifth in the 100 fly; earning second-team OVAC honors in the 100 fly; and setting a school record in the 200 fresstyle at 2:03.99.
Kiersten Harvath was recognized for claiming Buckeye 8 titles in the 500 freestyle and 100 backstroke; finishing second in OVAC Class 5A in the 500 freestyle and third in the 100 backstroke; finishing third in the state in the 500 freestyle; and earning second-team OVAC honors in the 500 freestyle.
The school’s 200 freestyle relay team of Farrell, Kettler, Harvath and Ivy Myers was honored for winning the Buckeye 8 championship; finishing second in OVAC Class 5A and finishing seventh in the state.
The 400 freestyle relay team of Farrell, Kettler, Harvath and Gwen Hill was recognized for its Buckeye 8 championship, and for finishing second in OVAC Class 5A and fourth in the state meet.
