Learn about Prime Time levy

To the editor: I am a senior citizen and certainly appreciate any and all services that are provided for seniors, including Prime Time. However, I am confused with the primary election Prime Time has on the ballot, so I am addressing my concerns. The Prime Time Senior Service Levy will be on the March 19 ballot. It has been estimated by the Jefferson County Auditor that this 1.2-mill, five-year replacement levy would generate almost $2.2 million a year for the next five years. Prime Time has said it will have to close if the levy does not pass. The current levy will provide tax ...

Where is our country heading?

To the editor: Some Democrats believe our Founders relied on myth and superstition when writing our Constitution. Unlike Claudine Gay, the plagiarizing, ex-president of Harvard, I cite sources. Tom Cotton, in his book “Only the Strong,” writes “Progressives believe that this myth of God-given, inalienable rights interfered with their plans to construct a vast administrative bureaucracy ... to regulate the economy and (our) private life. Progressives believe that individual rights are not a gift from God or inherent in our nature, but rather a gift from government ... What ...

Oh, what a life it’s been

To the editor: My life in a nutshell: I am 88, can’t skate, walk much slower and think a lot slower, but oh, what a life it’s been. Fate blessed me: Born in 1935, escaped high school in 1953, World War II, Korea and Vietnam. I worked at Weirton Steel for 42 years and had a few bumps along the way. But, I am happy to say, oh, what a great life it’s been. Maybe God will grant me a few more years. I just want a peek to see what the future generations have coming in the future. The beginning is not promising. America’s new image: Congress is a circus without a ...

Ensuring future of American energy

The recent jobs report reflects the hard-working American businesses that are powering our economy, as discussed in “The U.S. didn’t just avoid a recession — it’s adding hundreds of thousands of new jobs.” (Feb. 2) But uplifting jobs data doesn’t just happen or materialize overnight. To maintain America’s role as an economic powerhouse, we must work to strengthen our role as a global energy leader. For example, in Ohio, oil and natural gas are at the heart of investment and economic development. Right ...

Hypocrisy on immigration

To the editor: Former president, and current U.S. 2024 Republican Party presidential candidate Donald J. Trump has recently began to verbally assault his current Republican Party presidential opponent, former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and prior governor of South Carolina, Nikki Haley for her immigrant heritage, stating that such would disqualify her from ever serving as president of our great nation, although the well-documented facts prove Trump’s allegations to be, as per usual, baseless and without merit. For the record, Haley, who was born with the name Nimreata ...

Across the U.S., the project collected 10 million shoebox gifts in 2023. Combined with those collected from partnering countries in 2023, the ministry is now sending more than 11.3 million shoebox gifts to children worldwide, including many who are suffering from war, poverty, disease and disaster. Through shoeboxes —packed with fun toys, school supplies, and personal care items — ...
