Just a few thoughts

To the editor: Some odds and ends: It’s time for Congress to grow up. If one has to be 35 years or older to run for president, then 65 should be the cut-off age when one can’t run. Old men start wars and young men die. Humans have developed everything from electric cars to artificial intelligence. The sad part is there is no fairy tale to the end of humanity. The history of the world is based on hatred, color, language and appearance. Fox News pundits idolizing President Donald J. Trump, a question — if he wins the presidency and tears up the Constitution as he has ...

Texts to Biden, Harris a waste of time

To the editor: I read the letter from Marjie DeFede in the March 3 edition of the paper (“Put women in the Constitution.”) She is certainly entitled to her opinions but not her own facts. She complains about equal rights for women and criticizes men in general and Republicans and Catholic jurists in particular. Roe v. Wade was a bad decision, and in his later years, Justice Thurgood Marshall, who wrote the opinion, stated it was the worst decision he ever wrote. She states that then-President Donald Trump blocked publicizing the Equal Rights Amendment into the Constitution and ...

Road needs to be fixed

To the editor: This letter is in reference to the atrocious condition of Johnson Road, that connects Trinity Medical Center West to Sunset Boulevard. It has been in a bad state of repair for several months. Simply patching potholes, putting patches over patches and resurfacing segments won’t get the job done. A complete resurfacing needs to be done to do the job right. Many side roads and alleys have been repaved, but an important road like this gets neglected. Emergency vehicles, with patients inside, sure have a rough ride. I am sure that if former Jefferson County ...

Setting the record straight in Mingo

To the editor: I am responding to questions I have been asked about the operation of the Mingo Senior Center meal site prior to my retirement in 2020, and I would like to set the record straight. The Mingo Junction site was shut down, along with eight other congregate meal sites, due to COVID. There was no audit against Prime Time that resulted in the site being closed. An issue had arisen in the past about food distribution, which was addressed. This issue was resolved and there was no interruption of services. All congregate meal sites had site managers employed by Prime Time ...

It’s time for Biden to go

To the editor: With the advance of old age, many are afflicted with memory loss and an ability to confront problems, mostly of an everyday involvement. Such individuals merit our consideration and our deepest concern for their well-being, and further, our obligation in making their lives meaningful and at peace. We have all observed President Joe Biden’s difficulties in making a coherent speech, and his seemingly being at a loss when exiting the stage. When in concert with a visiting head of state, he appears hesitant of finding his proper place on the platform as he ...

Put women in the Constitution

To the editor: This June will mark two years since the patriarchal attack on women grew when the Supreme Court set the stage for decimation of our reproductive rights with the Dobbs decision. What a sad fact to acknowledge as we observe March as Women’s History Month. Many politicians have strongly stated that we need to codify Roe vs. Wade, the long-standing court decision that legalized reproductive choices since 1973. What they don’t realize is their plan won’t work without the Equal Rights Amendment: “Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by ...
