Trump’s actions are troubling

To the editor: How is it that the former commander in chief of the military of our great nation, Donald J. Trump, continues to shockingly disrespect gallant members of our nation’s armed forces, as he has done once again at an event at the hallowed Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C., to honor 13 members of our nation’s military who were, sadly, killed in Kabul, Afghanistan, in 2021, by turning a very solemn memorial ceremony into an unadulterated political photo-op event in his attempt to be re-elected into the highest office in our land, with Trump and his staff ...

Brown doesn’t stand up for U.S.

To the editor: A television ad for Sherrod Brown showed him standing in a field while he talks about Ohio land being purchased by other countries and how he co-signed a bipartisan bill. He never does anything that the Democrat Party does not approve, so I looked up: U.S. farm lands purchased by China. This is information from two different sources: Sabrina Easton, The Plain Dealer (Cleveland.com) Feb. 2 and Tori Smith, American Action Forum, March 16, 2023. The headline for the Eaton article: Foreign entities more than 500,000 acres of farmland in Ohio. Sherrod Brown seeks ...

Brown brings jobs back

To the editor: In our region of the Ohio Valley, like many in Eastern and Southeastern Ohio, communities rely on manufacturers like Cleveland-Cliffs and its former Weirton tin mill for good-paying union jobs. When the mill was idled back in April, it left hundreds of workers, both from Ohio and West Virginia, without jobs. Sherrod Brown fought to ensure that Ohio companies like Cleveland-Cliffs weren’t stopped from creating new jobs because of some critically bad decisions. Thanks to Brown’s efforts to stand up to unnecessary bureaucracy, Cleveland-Cliffs announced that they are ...

Brown lowered costs, Moreno opposed

To the editor: Thanks to Sen. Sherrod Brown, more Ohioans have access to affordable health care. From capping the cost of insulin to lowering the cost of prescription drugs by voting to allow Medicare to negotiate drug prices, Brown has proven to us he will always take on Big Pharma to deliver low costs for Ohioans. But his challenger in the upcoming Senate election, Bernie Moreno, opposed the bill that has lowered prescription drug prices for Ohioans. Moreno wants to repeal the Affordable Care Act, which would strip health care access for Ohioans. Ohioans can’t trust Moreno to ...

Thanks to all who help band

To the editor: My husband and I live next to Harding Stadium. We enjoy hearing the band and wish to extend our thanks to the band leaders and all those who support it, especially the parents and guardians who make sure the students can participate, and to those who help make instruments available. Teaching is a noble profession. We applaud those who undertake this task. Linda McNeil Steubenville

Sign, sign, everywhere a sign

To the editor: There’s an old song from 1970 that applies still to this day — “Sign, sign, everywhere a sign. Blocking out the scenery, breaking my mind.” Here we are 54 years later and it still aptly describes what we’ve all been seeing in Jefferson County. Extra-large political signs for Republican candidates have popped up along all the main roads throughout the county. The thing is, there’s an ordinance on the books in Steubenville which prevents political campaign signs from being placed on any property more than 60 days prior to an election — which would be Sept ...
