Sign, sign, everywhere a sign

1 min read

To the editor:

There's an old song from 1970 that applies still to this day -- "Sign, sign, everywhere a sign. Blocking out the scenery, breaking my mind."

Here we are 54 years later and it still aptly describes what we've all been seeing in Jefferson County. Extra-large political signs for Republican candidates have popped up along all the main roads throughout the county. The thing is, there's an ordinance on the books in Steubenville which prevents political campaign signs from being placed on any property more than 60 days prior to an election -- which would be Sept 6.

So, we have two current elected officials who are violating that ordinance, as if the rules don't apply to them. If they aren't able to follow the rules, then it begs the question -- Are they qualified to hold elected office? Jefferson County deserves better. We deserve elected officials who not only know the rules, but are adhering to them as well.
