Vote your values this November

To the editor: I am writing to let voters in Steubenville know that they do not have to accept a lesser of two evils approach in this year’s election on Nov. 5. I would encourage voters to wholly reject the poor options that the two major parties have presented for our consideration. As an alternative, I would encourage people to consider casting their vote for the American Solidarity Party’s candidate Peter Sonski. This letter is an open invitation to join Sonski for a town hall discussion of what the American Solidarity Party stands for at 6 p.m. Oct. 12 at Froehlich’s Classic ...

Ohio Issue 1 needs more clarification

To the editor: Besides voting for president and vice president, senators and representatives, there are many issues on the ballot. Some are city or township issues, but one of the most important for all in Ohio is Issue 1. We had gathered signatures earlier this year to put Issue 1 on the ballot. Voting “Yes” on Issue 1 will allow us to finally get the politicians running for office out of mapping districts in their favor. The wording on the ballot for Issue 1 was devised to confuse you. Don’t be confused … It’s still a resounding “Yes” on Issue 1. Early voting in Ohio ...

Vote Republican in November

To the editor: Democrats from the top of the ticket to the local county headquarters are quick to tell us that the economy is fine. They actually think it’s never been better. Their beliefs are hard to swallow for any of us who have bothered to live in the real world since January 2021. Bought some groceries lately? Filled up your tank? Paid your rent? Paid your electric bill? Tried to get a loan? The Biden-Harris administration has conducted a three-plus year assault on our economy and one of the undeniable facts is that our current problems can be traced back to two things: ...

Thanks for summer events

To the editor: Another summer has come and gone, and I just wanted to acknowledge the hard work of the people and organizations that entertained us in the Ohio Valley. From the fireworks to the free summer concert series to the county fairs to the visitors to the area like USS LST-325, they all brought something fun for residents to see and do. Kudos and thank you to all involved. Steven Rockwell Follansbee

Why aren’t students first?

To the editor: I just read the article about the goals laid out by the superintendent of the Hancock County Board of Education. Amazingly enough, three of the four goals require more money. The goal of improving student achievement is third — should that not be the primary goal of the board of education? It is the only goal that does not ask for money. Maybe we should find more creative ways to help the students achieve their goals, not those of the board of education. I would begin by cutting the salaries of those who do not put students first. Lies and more lies

To the editor: Liar, liar, pants on fire. My thoughts as I watched Kamala Harris’s memorized script during the Sept. 10 three-on-one attack on Donald Trump, masquerading as a debate. The moderators “fact-checked” Trump’s answers and were wrong on the Haitian migrant crisis in Springfield, Ohio; late-term abortions and allowing babies aborted alive to die; and increased violent crime. Harris has no policies and is attached to Joe Biden’s failed policies, so she attacked Trump with lies. Harris stated that Trump will: Impose a 20 percent sales tax, implement Project 2025, ...
