Events upcoming for local outdoorsmen
The W.Va. Department of Natural Resources annual free fishing days will be held this weekend on Saturday and Sunday. Residents and non-residents can wet a line for free on any stream, river or state park.
Saturday a hunting and trapping seminar presented by the Hancock County Farm Bureau will be held at the New Manchester fire hall at 8:15 a.m. Smokey McNicholas will be the guest speaker. Admission at the door is $5, seating is limited.
June 20th from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Chester-Newell Sportsmen Club will be the annual kids fishing tournament. This event is open to the public and free for all kids ages 3-15. Prizes, food and drinks will be provided. The club is located behind Green Valley Dairy on Gas Valley Rd in Georgetown PA.
Also June 20th starting at 7 p.m. will be the monthly Catfish tournament on the Ohio River. Entry is $10 per person and those interested can sign up at Chaney’s Sunoco in Chester. All catfish must be measured at the Chester City Park marina by 7 a.m. June 21. You must have a valid fishing license from either W.Va., Pa., or Ohio to collect winnings.
