Our country needs gasoline

To the editor: It is pretty good when the government threatens the people to buy electric cars by getting rid of gasoline-powered cars. You have to be a little wealthy to afford one. For one thing, if you have an accident and the battery catches fire or gets a crack in it, you would have to buy a new one, which would cost thousands of dollars. It would only take one accident for the car to explode or catch fire, and as far as your insurance is concerned, the premium would be costly. Another thing: If you don’t have a garage for your charging system, you would have to put some ...

You must know yourself first

To the editor: We have in our midst a number of people who seem to harbor a perpetual grievance because the world fails to live up to their own high standards. Their views on rights would require that each and every human activity be subject to review on a case-by-case basis by the judgment of some rightthinking person. They like to mention the Constitution, but I really wonder if they’ve ever read it and thought about its meaning and origin. They imagine that anyone who can’t or won’t wave the flag and salute it at the same time must be disloyal. They have a close ...

Direction of party frustrating

To the editor: As someone who has long been involved in politics in Jefferson County, I am frustrated by the current state of the local Democratic Party. It has become a circus of disrespect, exclusivity and backdoor dealings. The Democratic Party in Jefferson County is acting no better than the Republican Party, and this is deeply troubling. Those who care about women’s issues, gay rights or any “minority movement” have been told that these are not the focus of the party and to go elsewhere. If you remove women, LGBTQIA+, the poor, BIPOC, gun reform and climate action, ...

Florist brightens days for people

To the editor: I would like to recognize an act of kindness that has been going on for more than a year now. Our local florist in Toronto, the only one we have, Colonial Garden Florist, the owner Mabel Cehrs, has been making small floral arrangements using her flowers, her vases, her time and her talent, to brighten the days of shut-ins in our town and in the area nursing homes. She calls me when she has some arrangements ready, and I pick them up and distribute them. The smile on a lonely person’s face when they open the door and see that someone has sent them flowers, or ...

Questions about world around us

To the editor: President Biden jokes when talking about the transgender who killed six Christians. Why isn’t this a hate crime? In Portland, a transgender person stabbed a cab driver to death. We have to ban transgender nuts, not guns. China’s Xi and Russia’s Putin are playing chess and met for three days on how to carve up the world while Biden wears homosexual pride pins and plays tiddlywinks. Jefferson County Democratic leaders are delusional and fabricating Biden’s success. They boast about $2.5 million Biden gave Jefferson County. First, it’s our money. Second, ...

Council members draw ire

To the editor: This letter is to address the actions of certain members of Steubenville City Council during a night that was supposed to honor our local American heroes. I was unable to attend that meeting, but I read what happened. I’m embarrassed for our city. Council should pass a resolution that all members of council and city leaders must stand and face the flag. If these members want to be disrespectful on their own time, let them. This disgusting show of disrespect for the men who were asked to come to be honored should never have happened. This display by these ...
