Florist brightens days for people

1 min read

To the editor:

I would like to recognize an act of kindness that has been going on for more than a year now.

Our local florist in Toronto, the only one we have, Colonial Garden Florist, the owner Mabel Cehrs, has been making small floral arrangements using her flowers, her vases, her time and her talent, to brighten the days of shut-ins in our town and in the area nursing homes. She calls me when she has some arrangements ready, and I pick them up and distribute them.

The smile on a lonely person's face when they open the door and see that someone has sent them flowers, or that someone is thinking of them is priceless. We hear so much negative going on, but good things happen, too. Mabel wants no recognition, she does not want me to tell the shut-in who the flowers are from, just that someone is thinking of them.

Thank you, Mabel, for all the smiles you have created.
