Read more, react less

To the editor: I have a confession to make. I — a biological cis male, assigned male at birth, who identifies as male — used the single occupancy ladies’ restroom at work the other day. I did it knowing that as of last week, it’s a crime in the state of Ohio, but I didn’t have a choice. The men’s room was out of order, and I am 62-years-old in the middle of an eight-hour shift. My bladder can only hold so much for so long. I say I had no choice, but I suppose I could have just gone in my pants. I’m pretty sure that’s still legal. I’ll do that next time, so I can ...

The reality of book banning

To the editor: Claims that books are not really being banned because they are still available for purchase are incorrect. A book ban is action taken against a book based on its content (as a result of parent challenges, administrative decisions, or in response to lawmakers) that leads to a book being removed from availability in schools or libraries. Book bans are a form of censorship and go against the freedoms of speech and expression. It’s important to acknowledge that not everyone has the finances to purchase every book they want to read, which makes reading and education ...

Keeping the nation divided

To the editor: Elections are over … thank God. Lawn signs have been removed, by and large. Billboards are being removed, and all of the mental refuse and yard non-art has been removed. I have been a political voter since I was 18 years of age. It is a privilege of citizens of the United States. It is not a privilege of non-citizens. But that is an argument for another day, and we can discuss that. My question is both deeper and more significant than who votes, for it concerns who has been elected, and is the elected a person who represents all people, or only the people of their ...

Self-appraisal is needed

To the editor: The election has passed, and judging from the general tone of things, the way we treat each other hasn’t changed. We still blame, bait and insult our fellow Americans and we refuse to grow up. It seems that playing gotcha is just too much fun to stop. Conducting ourselves like responsible citizens for the sake of all and for the benefit of those who will live after us will just have to wait a while longer. There is a scarcity of adult minds that hurts us all and that should alarm everyone. Too many of us lack impulse control and we can’t seem to look beyond the ...

Let’s get our border back

To the editor: Maybe, with Donald Trump re-elected — if, that is, we make it to Jan. 20 without Biden blundering us into World War III, solely to make things difficult for Trump — we can have a border, again. Clearly, America wearies of importing millions of murderers, petty criminals and freeloaders whom we openly accommodate, and who prey upon our citizens and amenities, straining our social systems and law enforcement. Funny how it wasn’t an issue, though, until the red areas stopped tolerating and absorbing them, and started shipping them en masse to blue areas. Then ...

Good-bye, woke administration

To the editor: The garbage has spoken. The deplorables put down their guns and bibles and submitted their ballots. Trump was overwhelmingly chosen to be our president for the next four years. The woke are unhappy. Prior to election day, a local writer gave 10 woke ideas to consider before casting your ballot. Let’s examine two of those woke ideas. “Human gender’s not strictly binary; chromosomes are not the sole indicator of sex.” In high school biology I learned that gender was determined by the 23rd set of chromosomes, the sex chromosomes. A female has two X ...
