Trump to Democrats: You’re fired

To the editor: Hallelujah. Make America Great Again. Fight. Fight. Fight. Drill, baby, drill. Opening the pipelines, closing the borders. Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Richard Schumer, Sherrod Brown, and their maligned staffs. You’re fired. Republicans win the presidency, Congress and the popular vote. It’s a trifecta, a landslide, mandate. Electoral votes were 312 – 226, and in the popular vote, Donald Trump received 3.5 million more than Harris. He won all seven swing states, and created new ones, like New Jersey. Most of the states Harris won have no ...

A welcome return to protocol

To the editor: As a result of the Nov. 5 presidential election, former President Donald J. Trump will be returning to the White House, as a result of his winning a majority of votes in the Electoral College (which ultimately determines who will win the U.S. presidency), as well as the popular vote (being the first Republican to do so since George W. Bush in 2004) by fairly large margins, and, as result, will be inaugurated as the 47th president of our great nation on Jan. 20. However, while Trump, who failed to follow the long-established protocol in contacting the ...

Rue, rue, rue your vote

To the editor: Call him Forty-five. Call him Forty-seven. As for me, I’ll call him Fifty-one. That’s the percentage of the vote Donald Trump won the presidency by, the smallest number possible for a majority. Yet there are people calling it a mandate. But is it? In 2020, Joe Biden had about 60 percent of the vote. That’s a mandate. Did Republicans give him carte blanche? No, rather they used the filibuster to block key parts of his agenda. In 2016, Hillary Clinton had 54 percent of the vote, and she didn’t even get to be president. Trump won because of a handful of ...

An interesting request

To the editor: Energy prices, food prices and all utilities are increasing. Since all of the increases are having a negative impact on my Social Security income, I have attempted a proactive maneuver to level the situation. After investigating multiple approaches, I decided to send a request to my area representative asking for an application form to be an illegal immigrant so that my expenses would be paid. Would you believe it — the representative didn’t answer my request. However, at least he didn’t lie. John Murray Steubenville

How is money being spent?

To the editor: The Appalachian Regional Commission gave $68.2 million to 65 projects of which Jefferson County is to receive $2.5 million. The program is called Partnerships for Opportunity and Workforce and Economic Revitalization. POWER is for communities affected by job losses in coal mining, coal power-plant operations and coal related supply chain industries. “It is also to help train workers, advance new industries and build upon the progress already being made toward a bright future full of economic opportunity for our region.” (ARC News: Oct. 16) This statement was ...

Saying anything to get elected

To the editor: Kamala Harris during interviews stated “I’ll put my record up against anyone’s how I secured the border.” “I won’t change any of Joe Biden’s policies.” “I’ll turn the page.” What is she turning the page on if she’s keeping Biden’s policies? She’s flipped on fracking, border security and economic policies. I believe she’ll say anything to get elected, and once in office will reverse her campaign promises. I watched several of her rallies. To get Black male votes she promises $20,000 in forgivable loans and to legalize pot. Is this ...
