Some writers learn nothing

To the editor: I attended a White House ceremony Jan. 5. Standing inches from President Joe Biden I observed him throughout the event. One wants to feel sorry for a person in such intellectual and physical decline. His condition is so apparent it’s challenging to believe his handlers claim he’s as vigorous as a White House intern. I will not forgive him or his puppeteers for what they did to America, a nightmare that is over but should not be forgotten and remembered for generations. His last sneaky act was to pardon family members, who he claims did nothing wrong. Even ...

MLK disrespected on Monday

To the editor: Inauguration day is supposed to be a joyful event. Unfortunately, Monday was anything but joyful, but certainly historic. First and foremost, it was a monumental disrespect to the memory of Martin Luther King. The 20th Amendment to the Constitution specifies that the term of each elected president of the United States begins at noon on Jan. 20 of the year following the election. In my opinion, the inauguration should have been held on Jan. 21, due to the conflict with MLK Day. Some of our leaders use the Constitution and the Bible selectively when it serves their ...

A better use of bridge money

To the editor: There has been discussion about a new bridge to replace the Market Street Bridge. The West Virginia Department of Transportation has proposed committing $52.5 million from its federal fund and sharing $35 million from local funds. This is a 10-year project. The bridge was closed a year ago citing “cable deteriorated to the point where one of the anchorages actually broke,” said Mike Paprocki, executive director of the Brooke-Hancock-Jefferson Metropolitan Planning Commission. In researching, I came across an article titled “A Short History of the Market Street ...

Reproductive health care

To the editor: During the holiday season there are ads from many organizations asking for money. These organizations do good work. There are testimonies from beneficiaries about their services or descriptions of the good work they do. These organizations support people with disabilities and diseases, veterans and animals suffering from abuse. Many of these organizations help people in the United States and some assist people in other countries. There is no reason to believe that the information in these ads is false. Interspersed with these ads I saw an ad for Planned Parenthood. ...

Concerns about Trump’s agenda

To the editor: On Jan. 6, four years to the day when supporters of then-President Donald J. Trump, who were fully inspired and directed by the then-president to engage in a violent coup on the U.S. Capitol in order to attempt to illegally keep Trump in power, Congress certified Trump’s victory in the 2024 presidential election, and Kamala Harris, who in her position as the current vice president presided over the Senate and graciously stated in her official acknowledgment of the recent presidential election, which she lost to Trump, that “Today, America’s democracy stood,” ...

Caveat emptor, suckas

To the editor: Many who never voted for Donald Trump before, did so in November’s election. Now that he’s about to begin his second term, I wonder how many are experiencing buyer’s remorse. Are you getting what you voted for? Since November, some who rely on ACA for affordable health care and guaranteed coverage of pre-existing conditions have just learned that ACA actually is the Obamacare they cheered Trump promising to abolish, and they’re rightfully scared. It’s not what they thought they wanted. Putting sick people at risk: Is that what you voted for? Candidate ...
