Brett Cain

Brett Allen Cain, a gentle giant with a tender heart that entertained music fans up and down the East Coast, Southern California, and his beloved Ohio Valley passed away from cardiac arrest at 7:26 PM on Wednesday, June 9, 2021. He was 43 years old.

Brett was born in Steubenville, OH on July 14, 1977, to Terry Lee and Deborah Williamson Cain. He grew up in Weirton, WV, and Colliers, WV, and was a 1995 graduate of Brooke High School.

After High School, Brett continued his education at West Liberty State College, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in music and theater.

A gifted musician, and songwriter, Brett began singing live at the age of three, with his family’s gospel band. His father taught him how to play the guitar and harmonica at the age of eight.

After graduating college, Brett began his professional career touring with his band, The Brett Cain Band. The band instantly became popular up and down the east coast at many college campuses and music venues. After the band broke up, Brett headed to the West Coast, where he was a performer at the California Comedy Magic Club, Universal Studios, The Steve Harvey Show, and BB King’s Blues Club Restaurant.

The passing of his father, Terry in 2012, and his brother, Shawn in 2013 brought Brett home to be with his mother, grandmother, and nephew. The Ohio Valley music fans were once again able to enjoy his music, as the party people united at area restaurants, bars, and music venues.

Most recently due to the pandemic and Brett’s health issues, the party people united on Saturday evenings via Facebook Live to watch and listen to Brett as he entertained his fans from his basement apartment, with his beloved golden retriever, Meadow, by his side.

On June 9, 2021, the music world lost a true musical gift, and to quote a friend, “Brett Cain stood tall at 6’9” with a booming voice that didn’t need an amplifier. His personality, heart, and passion dwarfed his size.

Brett will be remembered with love by his mother, Deborah Williamson Cain, his stepfather, Tim Kryaninko; his nephew, Eli Cain, and all his friends, fans, and musicians he met along his way.

Visitation will be 1-3 and 6-8 PM Sunday at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday.

Rev. Larry Barkley and Rev. Scott Mapes will preside.

Brett will be laid to rest at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Weirton.
