The forgotten man and the bridge

To the editor: The Wellsburg -Brilliant Bridge isn’t, that is, in Wellsburg at all. It is been constructed outside the city limits. That is a big deal for Wellsburg city residents who face ever-increasing water rate increases. Any business that would be constructed or opened after its completion would not have to pay the city business and operating tax. Bridges increase cash flow when they join two places that complement each other economically. It can have a powerful impact when an area that has a large money supply is connected to one that has goods or services to sell or people ...

Gorman proven community leader

To the editor: I write today to show my support for Ted Gorman, who is running for the Fifth Ward seat on Steubenville City Council. Gorman is the exact type of leader that the city of Steubenville needs in order to establish a thriving small business community, to continue the excellence of educational opportunities for our young people and to provide a voice of reason, rational planning and execution of ways to improve the efficiency that our local government needs. Gorman provides a perfect example of accomplishing more with less. The success of Steubenville City Schools ...

Leadership sets Gorman apart

To the editor: I rarely write letters to the newspaper. However, today I would like to take this time to endorse and support Ted Gorman for Steubenville’s Fifth Ward council seat. I have known Gorman for several years and have served alongside him on the board of directors of the United Way of Jefferson County. Gorman is a “can-do” guy who always is laser focused on getting the job complete and done properly. That leadership has been very evident in the progress of Steubenville High School as he has served as principal for many years. Steubenville City Schools always ...

Bidenomics has hurt America

To the editor: Bidenomics: When you pay more to live worse. Real wages are down 3 percent. Sixty-one percent of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck and 100 percent of illegal aliens are living for free. Biden brags about reducing inflation to 4 percent, but he was the one who got it to 9 percent. A friend told me she was paying $115.68 a month on a loan two years ago that is now $390.70. Biden is a mumbling, fumbling, stumbling, one-foot-in-a-nursing-home half-wit. He said he was at the Sept. 11 site in New York City on Sept. 12. Records reveal he gave a speech in the Senate ...

City Council seats up for grabs

To the editor: The citizens of Steubenville have an opportunity in November to elect two new City Council members, Ted Gorman, Steubenville High School principal, for the Fifth Ward seat, and Scott Dressel, who served on City Council a few years ago, for the at large city council seat (as a write-in candidate.) In addition, Councilwoman Asantewa Anyabwile, is up for re-election for the First Ward seat. All three of these candidates would be an asset to the city of Steubenville. All three of these candidates care about the future of our city and the well-being of its citizens ...

Questions about the system

To the editor: As a police officer in the city for several years, I never gave it much thought about what went down behind closed doors. I did my job and went back to work, never worrying about how the victims may feel. Today, I now understand how the victims felt and feel. Not a criminal case, but in family court I am a victim. Here in Jefferson County, defense and prosecuting attorneys are all buddies. They are more concerned about sipping their mai tai’s together rather than actually helping clients. And trust me, these attorneys will do anything to avoid the obstacle ...
