Some lies are outrageous

To the editor: Among the many lies, the most outrageous lie put forth by the “ideology of lies and violence” (Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger) is “it’s my body and ___.” The truth is, from the moment of conception, a woman has been gifted by God with the ability to bring into the world another human individual, unique and irreplaceable; an individual ordained by the creator with ineffable value. “Each human being is of huge value to God, so much so that he died to unite each of us to him.” (“A Year with Father Rutler;” Vol. III) This culture of death recognizes no ...

Democracy in peril

To the editor: I find it quite ironic and hypocritical, indeed, that our egotistical, morally bankrupt ex-President Donald J. Trump obviously appears to be running for his possible return to the White House based solely on personal revenge and retribution on his part, while demagogically stating, as per usual, that our government is persecuting him, because it is he who somehow stands in their way of prosecuting us, the American people, for what, of course, he offers no explanation. Such loathsome rhetoric is typical when coming from a tyrant, but not from one who even remotely ...

Migrants not filling jobs

To the editor: There is a crisis at our Southern border. Democrats make many excuses to try to convince us that all the illegal migrants are an asset to our country. I recently heard a Democrat debating a Republican about the border on a Newsmax program. This Democrat stated that our unemployment rate is 3.5 percent (it is now 3.8 percent) and there are countless jobs that have not been filled and migrants could fill those jobs. In a recent column discussing migrants going to New York, Betsy McCaughey discussed the topic of illegal migrants including the belief that they would be ...

Toronto concerts again a success

To the editor: The Toronto Coalition Concerts at the Gazebo were a big success. The concert series opened this year with a Fourth of July Patriotic Concert which coincided with the Toronto city fireworks on July 1. Nine concerts followed every Wednesday evening through the months of July and August. This ninth year had a record-breaking attendance, which no doubt was fueled by the following performers: Rich Coburn, Roz & Lynn, Russell Sisters, Two Friends Trio, Poor Man’s Heaven, Easy Street, Steel Cassa, Madel Jager, Ron Retzer Trio, Twice as Nice, 40 Plus, Chelsea ...

Access to library books

To the editor: “Let Children Have Access to Books Suitable to Their Age,” Aug. 19, sounded like a promising title, but the content was just one more op-ed advocating placing undue limitations on a public institution under the guise of protecting children from “dangerous” reading material. If the author is to be believed, the Jefferson County public libraries are places where children of all ages have unfettered access to everything on the shelves. First, the library’s Child Safety Policy is quite clear: “Children under the age of 6 may not be left unattended by an adult ...

Party in crisis?

To the editor I recently resigned my elected position with the Jefferson County Democratic Party, as a precinct chair and member of the executive and central committees. Those who know me as a lifelong Democrat will realize something has to be seriously amiss in the party for me to take such a drastic step. I’ve always been proud to carry on my family’s tradition as active Democrats, working to improve our area and in support of party values. Recent events have shown me things that one would never have expected from Democrats. The Jefferson County Democratic Party started down ...
