Where’s concern from Democrats?

To the editor: Two weeks ago, I read a letter to the editor from someone who attended the Jefferson County Democratic Party meeting and wrote about the disharmony within. Then, there was a letter from Barb Davis, “Local Democrats facing issues,” that appeared May 7, which referred to conflict in the same organization. I’m intrigued by their comments. The letter from Davis reveals a rife among the Democrats concerning their political platform and ideology. It looks as if she’s upset there is discord about the comments of some members, and the writer cannot, or will not, ...

A plea to Jefferson County

To the editor: I am writing today to plead with the residents of Jefferson County to be better humans. I have had people at the grocery store in Wintersville tell me to “go back where I came from.” I was born in North Carolina at Camp Lejeune. I have had friends attacked for being perceived as transgender in Steubenville, because they had short hair and no breasts. They survived cancer. The list goes on and on. In Florida, it is legal to remove a child from their parents for nail polish if a stranger perceives it as gender affirming care. This new law makes gender affirming ...

Police reports welcome reading

To the editor: I would like to compliment the publication of the Daily Happenings Police Reports from the May 10 edition — what a great job. I would like to see the reports from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department and Steubenville Police Department have their reports listed with names, addresses and ages and what the charges are for. They already have that information. It lets you know what is going on in ...

Mother’s Day memories

To the editor: My mom told me that during thunderstorms, as a young girl, she always made certain that she was touching or holding onto her mom. Her reasoning was that if her mom got struck by lightning, she would get struck too, and, therefore, wouldn’t be left to live without her. Happy Mother’s Day. Wayne R. Ruckman Mingo Junction

Losing faith in leaders

To the editor: As a concerned Democratic citizen in Jefferson County, I am writing to express my growing disillusionment with our leaders. It seems that every day, there is a new scandal or controversy surrounding those who are supposed to represent us. From national government officials to local party leaders, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to trust anyone in a position of power. Here in Jefferson County, the chaos within the Democratic Party is a clear example of this problem. It’s disheartening to see some local leaders use their name and influence to highjack a ...
