We face moral decisions

To the editor: I appreciated Ben Shapiro’s column “Finding moral clarity” in Monday’s edition, in which he pointed out the incestuous relationship between Hamas and Palestinian citizens. I would like to shine some clarifying light on the morality of another confusing topic in the news of late: In vitro fertilization, and its incestuous relationship with eugenics and abortion. Shortly after his inauguration, President Donald Trump issued an executive order to form a commission to study ways to make IVF more affordable and more easily available. Some even referred to IVF as a ...

Promises made, promises broken

To the editor: A letter by Michalene King appearing in the Feb. 15 edition began with the words, “Promises made, promises kept.” She went on to list campaign promises she feels Donald Trump has supposedly honored in his first month back in office. Let’s explore those promises. The list began by parroting White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, who earlier that month provided the press with a DOGE-advanced list of wasteful programs all supposedly funded by USAID. The intent of this list was to gain support for Elon Musk’s decision to close that department. Thing is, ...

Something off with policy

To the editor: By far, the most demanding job I ever worked included being the supervisor of 18 people who were, in turn, supervised about 127 individuals, totally. So, I oversaw 145 people. There were some things I did when people were hired and there was a policy in place that had to legally be followed to terminate people from various departments. When hired, everyone was informed of place or location where the work was done, the number of workdays a year and personal days off. There was always a place for the supervisor’s name and a full job description. When, in our case, ...

Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Month

To the editor: In 2006, I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. When diagnosed, I did not know what MS was. Others, along with myself, experience the various challenges of MS. No one has chosen to live with MS, it has chosen us. Every hour, someone is diagnosed with MS, a chronic disease of the central nervous system for which there is no cure. MS interrupts the flow of information between the brain and the body. A few of the impacts of someone with MS could be one or more of these experiences however, there are numerous others. An individual may experience continuous headaches, ...

Compassion at core of U.S. greatness

To the editor: In the words of Sophia Petrillo, a character from the Golden Girls TV show , I say to you: “Picture it.” In any country overwhelmed by famine, starving children line up to be fed. The food arrives in bags and boxes marked with the American flag, the letters USAID and the message “When you are suffering, America will come through for you.” Our aid literally saves lives. I know firsthand that this is absolutely true. Many years ago, in a poverty-stricken rural town in southern Italy, a starving little girl would receive American cheese along with other ...
