The YMCA Wellness Center at St. John Arena held its first Play-In-Spire event Wednesday. In the vein of service clubs for adults, the free event seeks to bring impactful speakers for local youth to learn from, according to YMCA Director Marci Snyder-Crawford. Speakers also choose an engagement activity with the youth. Play-In-Spire will be held at 6 p.m. every Wednesday. Invited by Jefferson County Commissioner Eric Timmons, Wednesday’s speaker was Franciscan University of Steubenville basketball player Travis Zimmerman, who shared how he overcame drug abuse through faith and fraternity in athletics. As his engagement activity, Zimmerman played basketball with attending kids. — Christopher Dacanay
