Wellsburg man sentenced in incest case
David Hill
WELLSBURG — A Wellsburg man was sentenced Thursday to 25 to 75 years in prison after pleading guilty to five counts of incest.
The sentence for David Michael Hill, 46, of Wellsburg came following a plea agreement involving the dismissal of five counts each of second-degree sexual assault and sexual abuse by a custodian, for which he was indicted by a Brooke County grand jury last year.
Thomas Kroger, Hill’s attorney, noted earlier had those charges not been dropped, his client would have faced a sentence of 100 years to 200 years of incarceration.
On Thursday, 1st Judicial Circuit Court Judge Ronald Wilson noted the sentence entailed five to 15 years for each count, with each to be served consecutively.
Under state law, Hill may seek a reduced sentence, which Brooke County Prosecutor Joseph Barki has said he will oppose.
The prosecutor said during a two-year period, Hill sexually assaulted a minor related to him “multiple times in a week” until she was old enough to no longer be in his care.
Status hearings for other cases also were heard in circuit court Thursday.
Cases against Rachel Camilletti, 34, and Zachary Henderson, 35, both of Follansbee, were continued, with an evidentiary hearing set for Sept. 6 for Henderson.
The two have been charged with child neglect resulting in the death of a child for allegedly enabling their toddler to access a controlled substance in their home, and gross child neglect creating risk of death or serious injury because their two other children allegedly had access to the drug.
A case against Thomas Wetterau, 27, of Wellsburg, also was continued, with the defendant slated to appear on Aug. 4 for a status hearing.
Wetterau was indicted for wanton endangerment involving a firearm, harassment and violation of another’s civil rights for allegedly threatening an off-duty Weirton police officer last year.
Wetterau allegedly revealed a handgun under his shirt while telling the officer, “I hope you get popped” outside a Weirton business.
