PITTSBURGH — The Sen. John Heinz History Center will host “President’s Lecture: The Adventures of Young George Washington,” led by President and CEO Andy Masich from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday in celebration of Presidents Day weekend.
Focusing on the first president’s early explorations, Masich will reveal Washington’s loves, battles and missteps on the wild Pennsylvania frontier during the days before the American Revolution.
Prior to the lecture, visitors are encouraged to reflect on the nation’s 250th birthday by exploring the history center’s exhibitions “Clash of Empires” and “My America: An Illustrated Experience,” located on the fifth floor.
This program is part of the center’s year-long commemoration of the semi-quincentennial, marking the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, in partnership with America250PA.
America250PA was established by the Pennsylvania state legislature and governor in 2018 to plan, encourage, develop and coordinate the commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States Pennsylvania’s integral role in that event and the impact of its people on the nation’s past, present and future.
The Heinz History Center programs commemorating America’s 250th anniversary are supported by the Nimick Forbesway Foundation, Richard King Mellon Foundation, Visit PA and the Allegheny Regional Asset District.

Area museums nominated
PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh’s world-class museums are shining on the national stage as three of the city’s cultural institutions have been nominated for USA Today’s 10 Best Readers’ Choice Awards, recognizing excellence in museums across the country.
The Kamin Science Center, Heinz History Center and the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh have been nominated.
The community was asked to vote for any of the museums to receive the award.
The three organizations joined together to bring a first-place sweep home for the City of Champions. Officials asked all Pittsburghers to tell the rest of the country what its residents already know — Pittsburgh has the best science center, history museum and children’s museum in the country.
The city showed its hometown pride by voting daily through Monday, in the hopes of bringing the national honors home.
The winners are scheduled to be announced next week, according to the event’s organizers.
