Police reports

Jefferson County Sheriff

Fishy story: Deputies spotted a U-Haul truck parked by the railroad tracks on Costona Lane near the Brown’s Island bridge, Tuesday. They said the truck was empty but two Weirton men who were there “claimed to be fishing with a string and magnet.” Deputies notified Weirton Police “since they have been (investigating) thefts of copper from the Brown’s Island area.”

Way too loud: Neighbors complained of extremely loud music blaring from a property in the 300 block of Frostview Drive, Steubenville, Tuesday. The callers thought the music was coming from a vehicle but deputies said when they arrived they realized it was coming from a house. They said they could hear the music before they got out of the car and said it was “so loud to where the house was shaking.” No one would come to the door when deputies attempted to make contact, though they did turn the volume down.

Vandalized: A Bloomingdale man said someone shattered a rear window on his PT Cruiser, Tuesday.

Noise maker: A Cleveland Avenue resident asked police to check her basement because she was hearing “strange noises,” Tuesday. Police were able to trace the noise to “something making a beeping noise inside of an old pile of Christmas decorations.

Helped themselves: A health care provider checking on a client told police he found several individuals staying in her property, Tuesday. He said when he asked what they were doing there they “claimed they asked permission to stay (there) and now consider themselves residents.” The caregiver said when he told them that wasn’t the case an argument ensued. One of the intruders said he “was told by one of the female residents he could stay with his fiancé and their friends.” Police said no one could give them a timeline on how long they’d been staying there so they were told to gather their things.

Familial harassment: Police were asked to do check on the welfare of a juvenile at a North Fifth Street location, Tuesday. They said they spoke with the juvenile and her guardian, who told police he figures it was his sister harassing him because “he is in the process of getting custody of her other children.”
