A rush to judgment?

(Correction: This letter has been revised to reflect that financial audits for the last four years are available on the website of the Catholic Diocese of Steubenville.) To the editor: In the Herald-Star on Tuesday, Bishop Paul Bradley, apostolic administrator of the Diocese of Steubenville, said a proposed merger with the Diocese of Columbus is back on the table. Bradley said the discussions a year ago focused more on financials. He said “this study is broadening that out and looking at all the important aspects of the life of the diocese. They also have to consider the great ...

Corporate greed hurts everyone

To the editor: News has reached Bob Cratchit’s Christmas dinner table that working families pay the price for corporate greed. The elite media has naive Americans transfixed on gender issues, while greedflation goes mostly unreported and costs the Upper Ohio Valley workforce more than ever. Tyson Foods’ billionaire board chairman is a Republican. While party registration at the local courthouse grows deeper red, it is President Joe Biden’s Democrat Department of Justice that is fighting the price fixing. Tyson Foods has brought higher prices to the greengrocers, which has ...

Clothing drive helps veterans

To the editor: I would like to thank the Weirton Board of Parks and Recreation for hosting the duty free veterans’ clothing shop this past week. As a veteran I was able to go to the shop and browse the many donations. I was amazed at the overwhelming array of apparel offered included some for female veterans. I picked up a few items for myself. Unfortunately, my main reason for attending the clothing shop was to pick up clothing for my sister and her military veteran husband. They currently live in Clarksville, Tenn. They survived the EF 3 tornado with only the clothes on their ...

An example that accidents happen

To the editor: Without adding any hocus-pocus to creation, the best bet is accidents happen. Simple enough, science says. Nothing existed. Just a dark void. A spark started the expansion that created the universe as we know it today. Billions of years to create the Earth, moon and stars. The gem in the whole process, Earth. The sun and moon and another spark in the sand and life is created and another million years to create humans, who have turned the gem into a dump with the end in sight. Beware of the mumbo jumbo being cast forth by the Fox pundits and their selected ...

The Trump influence

To the editor: I find it quite disturbing, indeed, to continue to observe the degeneration of the national Republican Party as a result of the obvious massive influence that former President Donald J. Trump continues to have on the GOP, and, as a result, it has increasingly become shockingly disrespectful of the rule of law, public decorum and basic human decency, following the disturbing such precedent which Trump has established as a public figure, which has, unfortunately, been emulated by many of his MAGA sycophants in the U.S. Congress. It continues to be quite troubling that ...
