PREP ROUNDUP: Indian Creek pulls away from Harrison Central to move to 7-0
CADIZ — Harrison Central was able to hang close with Indian Creek for part of three quarters, but the Redskins running game could not be slowed down on the way to a 41-28 victory Friday night at Wagner Field in Cadiz.
Creek racked up 422 rushing yards and 522 yards of total offense in improving its record to 7-0 on the season. The Huskies had a two-game win streak snapped and fall to 2-5.
Leading the Creek ground attack was Bruce Mazar with 267 yards and four rushing touchdowns. He also caught three passes for another 79 yards and a score, giving him 346 total yards and five scores on the night. He had scoring runs of 38, 18, 3 and 51 yards.
Ian Starkey threw for 100 yards and a 25 yard TD to Mazar, while also rushing for another 100 yards and a TD for a 200 yard night of his own.
Gavin Pownall also rushed for 81 yards.
For the Huskies, Brady Hyre threw for 249 yards and three scores and ran for 69 yards and an additional TD. His touchdown tosses went to Kayne Dunkle, Colson Cruthers and Chaz Culbertson.
Indian Creek returns home next week to host Beaver Local, while the Huskies take a trip to Bellaire.
Weir High falls to Keyser
WEIRTON — The Weir High football team fell behind early and did not catch up, dropping a 34-6 decision to visiting Keyser Friday night at Jimmy Carey Stadium.
The Red Riders fall to 0-5 on the season ahead of a trip to East Fairmont next Friday.
Brooke edges East Liverpool
WELLSBURG — The Brooke football team picked up a narrow win over visiting East Liverpool on Friday night at home, 21-20, for its third win in four weeks.
The Bruins, now 3-3, got a touchdown on a blocked kick to strike first, then fell behind on two scores from the Potters (2-5) Ben Myers.
Brooke answered with a Grant Yost kick return for a score, then after Myers threw another touchdown to give East Liverpool a 20-14 lead, Ty Sperringer hit Corey Maynard for a long touchdown and Rocco Sacripanti’s extra point proved to be the difference.
The Bruins host Frankfort next Friday in their final home game of the regular season.
Edison tops Canton CC
RICHMOND — The Edison football team bounced back with a strong performance in a 35-17 victory over Canton Central Catholic on Friday night at home.
Nolan Haught, making his second start at QB, fired two touchdown passes, an 18-yarder to Evan Kimmerle and a30-yarder to Skyler Willoughby, and Brett Hellyer ran for touchdowns of 2, 1 and 25 yards in the win.
Edison, now 4-2, travels to East Liverpool next Friday.
Toronto suffers first loss
TORONTO — The Red Knights dropped a 33-12 decision to Tuslaw on Friday night to drop from the ranks of the unbeaten.
Tuslaw held a narrow 7-6 lead at halftime but outscored the Red Knights (6-1) 26-6 in the second half to pull away.
Toronto will look to bounce back next week hosting Monroe Central.
