Madonna sweeps a tri in its home opener, evens record
WEIRTON — The Madonna volleyball team had a strong night in its home opener on Tuesday evening.
The Blue Dons, hosting a tri against Cameron and Morgantown Trinity, swept both matches, and did not lose a set in either.
Madonna topped the Dragons 25-14 and 25-15, then knocked off Trinity 25-12 and 25-20 to sweep the night.
The pair of victories even Madonna’s record on the season at 3-3.
In the first match, Madi Owens tallied eight kills and five digs, Rylee Birkhimer recorded five kills and two digs, Sophie Brady finished with 19 assists and four digs and Geena Birkhimer had five aces.
In the second match, RyleeBirkhimer added seven kills and six digs, Brady tallied another 19 asssits, Owens had five kills and five digs and Danyka DeCaria recorded nine digs and an ace.
The Dons are at Catholic Central today.

Big Red keeps rolling
BERGHOLZ — Make it 14-straight victories for the Big Red golf team.
Steubenville extended its streak with a 164-177 dual win against Edison Tuesday at Spring Hills.
Christopher Elliott fired a 36 to lead the way for Big Red as match medalist. Andrew Matzorkis followed with a 40, while Jaggar Rawson and Noah Kokiko each shot 44. Kokiko eagled the fourth hole.
For Edison, Xander Haught fired a 41, while Luke Ferralli turned in a 42, Isaiah Filburn had a 45 and Brady Haught carded a 49.
