Sycamore welcomes pottery class

STEUBENVILLE -- A new pottery class is coming to the Sycamore Youth Center this fall.

The creative program is designed specifically for 15 third- and fourth-grade students. The course will be held on Wednesdays, from 3:45 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Students will be taught by instructor Paul Monroe of Spyridon Studios, gaining hands-on experience working with clay. Students will the opportunity to use a potter's wheel, glaze and learn painting techniques, with each child creating their own original artwork.

Bobbyjon Bauman, executive director of the Sycamore center, expressed his excitement for the new program, saying, "We are thrilled to be able to offer this incredible opportunity for area youth."

"Art has the power to unlock creativity, build confidence and give children a positive outlet of expression," Bauman added. "We are so grateful to Paul Monroe and Spyridon Studios for sharing their gifts with our community, and can't wait to see the beautiful artwork these students will create."

Sycamore offers more than 60 free weekly programs for children in the Ohio Valley. The nonprofit continues to expand its creative offerings, including the addition of the new pottery class.
