RICHMOND — The Edison High School Athletic Department celebrated the end of an outstanding volunteer service by Gary Davidson, who was the Wildcats’ football announcer for 32 years.
Davidson was honored with a dinner and plaque presentation which was attended by many of his family members.
Many of the years he served involved having his sons-in-law, Harold Lemasters and Nimish Patel, and grandson-in-law Matt Schaefer working in the press box as they ran the scoreboard, played the clock, and were spotters.
His plaque was inscribed with the following:
“In recognition of 32 Years of Voluntary Services and Dedication to the Edison Local School District by being the Announcer of Varsity, JV, junior high, and youth football games. Gary’s voice resonating over the stadium speakers on autumn nights will truly be missed by all home and visiting fans.”
The athletic department also awarded Davidson with the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) State Award for Sportsmanship, Ethics, and Integrity.
The award is presented to a supporter of athletics from the community who exemplifies good sportsmanship, ethics, and integrity along with being a positive role model and contributing to the well-being of the youth at the local high school.
