Presley Center offers help with area residents’ hearing needs

Contributed UNDER ONE ROOF — Megan Presley, owner of Presley Hearing Center in Suite C at 630 Market St., Steubenville, was flanked by family, city officials and members of the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce, as she cut a ribbon to mark the opening of her office, which brings under one roof the services she had provided as Tristate Mobile Audiology.
STEUBENVILLE — The owner of Presley Hearing Center says many people rank hearing among the lowest of health concerns, but it’s actually vital to one’s safety, independence and mental and social well-being.
“Hearing care is health care. It’s just an important part of health that often is forgotten, said Megan Presley, who offers hearing evaluations, an assortment of hearing aids and other treatments at her new office in Suite C at 630 Market St.
Many members of the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce and local officials joined her for a ribbon cutting to mark its opening. But many residents have come to know Presley, who previously offered such services as Tristate Mobile Audiology.
She said she’s still able to meet with patients at home when needed, but she’s happy to be able to bring all of her equipment and supplies under one roof.
At the office Presley employs video otoscopy, a procedure involving a small video camera, to obtain a detailed view of a patient’s ear canal, and conducts comprehensive diagnostic audiological evaluations and hearing tests to determine the source of a hearing problem.
She said the solution is not always a hearing aid, though she is able to offer a full line of hearing aids, including ones that are unnoticeable and compatible with smart phones and other digital devices. Presley is able to fine tune a hearing aid to ensure maximum benefit and offers routine cleaning, maintenance and other services related to hearing aids.
Her patients have included people of all ages, from children to senior citizens, she said.
Presley added she has advised patients about available treatments and insurance coverage, noting her office accepts Medicare Advantage plans.
A Steubenville native and graduate of Steubenville High School, Presley holds a clinical doctoral degree in audiology from Ohio University.
She said her interest in the field was inspired in part by her mother, Cathy, who has coped with hearing loss from a young age.
Her mother also assists her at the office as patient care coordinator.
Presley said her mother and father, Ed, and boyfriend, Mike Abbott, helped her in expanding the available space at her new location and making cosmetic renovations that have made it a relaxing environment for her patients.
She said it reflects her desire to make all of her patients feel comfortable while there.
“We want to welcome them as we would a family member,” said Presley.
