Harrison names Yourkovich as boys basketball head coach

CADIZ — Harrison Central High School recently announced Nick Yourkovich as the new head coach of the Huskies boys basketball program.
Yourkovich, a 1998 graduate of Martins Ferry High School, brings over two decades of experience in education and coaching to the position. A familiar face within Harrison Central, Yourkovich has spent the past 16 years serving the district as a teacher and administrator, including 13 years as head coach of the varsity girls basketball team.
He replaces Aaron Foldi, who coached the Huskies the past two seasons and is returning to the Franciscan University of Steubenville’s men’s basketball program as an assistant coach. Foldi played for and previously was on the coaching staff with the Barons.
“Nick’s proven success on the court and his years of experience in
education made him the clear choice for this role,” said Harrison Central Athletic Director Ray Hibbs. “Nick is a strong leader and advocate for our high school within our community, and his leadership perspective will only strengthen his ability to guide and support our student-athletes. We’re excited to recommend him to lead the program.”
His coaching résumé includes two years as a varsity assistant girls basketball coach at Martins Ferry, two years as head boys varsity coach at St. John Central High School, and head coach of the Harrison Central varsity girls basketball team, where he spent 13 seasons building a successful program.
During his tenure, Yourkovich led the Lady Huskies to two OVAC championships (2013-14, 2014-15) and two sectional championships with district semifinal appearances in those same seasons. His efforts were recognized with several coaching honors, including Eastern District Division III Coach of the Year in 2014 and 2021, District V Coach of the Year in 2014, and selection as the OVAC Ohio All-Star Coach in 2015.
“I’m excited and grateful for the opportunity to lead the boys basketball program at Harrison Central, ” said Yourkovich. “I want to thank coach (Aaron) Foldi and the entire coaching staff for the strong foundation they’ve built and for instilling a culture of sportsmanship and pride in our athletes. For me, it’s about more than just wins — it’s about helping these young men grow, work hard, and build something they can be proud of, both on and off the court. We’re ready to hit the ground running.”
Yourkovich will begin working with the team immediately in preparation for the 2025-26 season.
