More local wrestlers qualify for districts

Here are the results from other Ohio wrestling sectional tournaments on Saturday:

Division II

Two Indian Creek wrestlers won sectional titles during the Division II tournament at Claymont.

Dominic Paterra won his 138-pound match by pinning Carrollton’s Domanick Speelman in 2:38. Elijah Llewellyn (195) pinned Minerva’s Logan Williams in 3:30.

Placing second was the Redskins’ Austin Starr at 182. He lost a 7-4 decision to Indian Valley’s Jacob Armstrong.

Jeremy Brown (145) placed third, while C.J. Spencer (132), Reese Spencer (152) and Tyler Smarrella (220) were fourth.

Overall, the Redskins were fourth with 144 points. Minerva won with 200 points. Carrollton placed second with 194 and Indian Valley third with 149.5.

Division III

Harrison Central’s Justin Sampson and Buckeye Local’s Brian Palmer, Jr. and Charles Smith won sectional championships during the Division III tournament at Barnesville.

Sampson (106 pounds) pinned Martins Ferry’s Dylan Ward in 1:37. Palmer won his 138-pound match by pinning Barnesville’s Bryce Hall in 1:47. Smith also earned a pin over Martins Ferry’s Noah Duck in 3:55 in the 182-pound match.

Buckeye Local’s Alexio Morales finished second at 195 pounds. Martins Ferry’s Richard McFarland won with a 6-3 decision. Harrison Central’s Dillon Drapp also placed second at 220 pounds. He was pinned by Martins Ferry’s Zakary Dobson in 2:54.

Buckeye Local’s Danny Nation (152) finished in third place, while teammates Logan Dentz (106) and Trevor Herbert (113) were fourth. Harrison Central’s John Wagner (182) also placed fourth.

Overall, Barnesville won with 192 points. Martins Ferry was second with 168. The Panthers were fifth with 111 and Harrison Central seventh with 66.

At the Division III sectional tournament in Magnolia, Edison’s Hayden Johnson won a crown at 145 pounds. He pinned Sandy Valley’s Justin King in 3:49.

Toronto’s Garrett Dozier and Chris Parker placed second. Dozier lost the 138-pound match to Newcomerstown’s Logan Hursey via pin in 3:05. Parker, meanwhile, lost the 160-pound match to Newcomerstown’s Coltin Meek via pin in 1:27.

Toronto’s Kyre Smith (145) and Josh Francher (285) placed third, while Doug Whitman (120) was fourth. Edison’s Layne Kinney (132), Kolten Hanlin (220) and Jamison Stiles (285) were fourth.

Overall, Toronto was fifth with 109.5 points, while Edison was ninth with 66 points. Shenandoah won with 220 points. Newcomerstown placed second with 181 and Sandy Valley third with 152.
