Buckeye Local looks to bounce back at home

YORKVILLE — Buckeye Local is coming off a tough 56-0 loss to unbeaten Barnesville, the 40th victim in the Shamrocks string of 40-straight regular season victories.

No one likes to lose, and especially not by a large margin. But Buckeye isn’t the first or last team the Shamrocks will handle this season. Teams know what they are facing when facing Barnesville, and sometimes even a team’s best isn’t going to be good enough given the opposition’s size, speed, ability, and experience, all factors Barnesville features in triplicate.

Now Buckeye’s attention turns back to World War II Memorial Stadium as the Pittsburgh-based Carrick Raiders are coming to town.

The Raiders were winless through three games before taking care of winless Brashear (0-4) last week.

Carrick utilizes the services of two quarterbacks, although Tre Beasley takes the majority of the snaps. He’s thrown for 295 yards and four TDs against four interceptions.

He completes around 45 percent of this attempts (24-of-53) while averaging 98 yards per game.

The team’s top running back is 5-10, 175-pound senior Brian Babjak, who also serves as the backup quarterback.

It was Babjak, however, that piloted the Warriors to victory against Brashear.

He threw for 107 yards on 11-of-26 passing with one TD and one interception.

On the grad, Babjak rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries, averaging 6.6 yards per tote.

Junior Sherron Beasley ran for 27 yards and finished with 58 receiving on six catches while the team’s leading receiver, Kejuan Johnson, was held to one catch for eight yards.

Should Babjak draw the start, Buckeye will need to prepare for a mobile quarterback who can throw on the run.

Babjack was one of Tre Beasley’s top targets, so his athleticism is not in question.

Carrick’s offense will be far more balanced than what the Panthers will see at home the following week, when Oak Glen (3-0) comes to town with its punishing ground game.
