Unit closure will have big impact

To the editor: A recent front-page article in the Herald-Star tells us that the Jefferson County commissioners are looking into the revenues and expenses of our local justice system. One recent development will no doubt have consequences, not just for balancing the books, but on human suffering. Trinity Health System is in the process of closing its substance abuse and treatment unit. This includes inpatient and outpatient services. The detox unit is also to be discontinued. To the editor: Bishop Jeffrey Monforton of the Diocese of Steubenville continues to make questionable and incompetent decisions. Last week he ordered an immediate end to celebrating the Traditional Latin Mass at the chapel at the Franciscan University of Steubenville. This Mass was attended by about 250 students as well as faculty and staff. To the editor: Let’s see how “Working Class Joe” and his administration have been supporting the actual working-class citizens of our country. In early February a train derailed in the small town of East Palestine. The initial reaction from President Biden and his transportation secretary, Pete Buttigieg, was absence. The administration decided to leave everything up to the railroad and the state of Ohio.
