Trump must be held accountable

To the editor: For the record, Gen. Mark Milley, who recently resigned from his position as the highest-ranking military officer as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff for our great nation, following approximately four years total in the aforementioned position, which included one year and four months serving under then-President Donald Trump, the esteemed military leader has revealed just how difficult it had been for him to serve under Trump. It has been reported that Milley “guarded our republic from a president (Trump) who threatened constitutional underpinnings of the ...

Change leads to questions

To the editor: Jeffrey Monforton is no longer the bishop of the Diocese of Steubenville. It has been a long time coming and appears too late to save the diocese. Retired Bishop Paul Bradley, former bishop of the Diocese of Kalamazoo, Mich., was named as the apostolic administrator of the Diocese of Steubenville. In keeping with the Catholic church’s record of moving clergy with questionable issues or problems to another parish or diocese, Monforton has been assigned to the Archdiocese of Detroit as one of its five auxiliary bishops. It is highly unusual for a diocesan bishop to ...

To the editor: Ethics professors teach a thought experiment known as the trolley problem. Imagine a trolley headed toward a track-switch where you’re standing. Past the switch there’s a northern and a southern track. You notice somebody’s been tied to the north track, but the switch is directing the streetcar to the south track. Vote no in November

To the editor: In November we’ll be voting on a very important amendment. The text on the ballot will read as follows: “The proposed amendment would: Establish in the Constitution of the state of Ohio an individual right to one’s own reproductive medical treatment, including but not limited to abortion; create legal protections for any person or entity that assists a person with receiving reproductive medical treatment, including but not limited to abortion; prohibit the state of Ohio from directly or indirectly burdening, penalizing, or prohibiting abortion before an unborn ...

Clarification from historical society

To the editor: In the story about Monday’s Toronto Council meeting that appeared in Tuesday’s edition, “Fire department merger, cemetery event discussed in Toronto,” I was surprised to see that my name appeared and that I had agreed to a task. Neither I nor the Historical Society of Toronto have agreed to participate in any way in the planned event by the Hike Toronto group at the Toronto cemetery, as reported comments made by J. David Core indicated. A conversation about an historical event does not constitute participation. When the historical society presented their Ghost ...

Thanks for your support

To the editor: I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank those of this community for the support you showed to my wife, Vivian, and me at our retirement banquet on Sept. 9. We were truly honored with the outpouring of your kindness. Forty-nine years of preaching and 45 years of serving as senior pastor have been a blessing as well as a challenge, but it all was done to the glory of God. His protection and provision sustained us by his grace To the countless people and a vast number of supporters, thank you. To our mayor, city manager and members of City Council, ...
