An un-American budget bill

To the editor: So the president has signed the budget bill for our country. Congress passed it and he happily signed it even though the majority of the American people in poll after poll expressed great concern over many aspects of it. Ohio Sens. Bernie Moreno and Jon Husted voted for the bill, too. They will own the results of it in Ohio. Our representative in the House of Representatives, Michael Rulli, happily posted on his X account that this bill would “Secure the border, cut taxes for working families, protect women’s sports, unleash American energy and require voter ...

Thanks for your support

To the editor: The Combat Veterans Support Group Chapter 1 of Steubenville would like to thank the management and employees of the Steubenville Wal-Mart store and to everyone who donated to us on June 28. We are very proud of the support everyone gave us. We would like to let everyone know that all of the money you gave us will stay in our area to help veterans in need. We also gave out some 1,500 3-inch-by-5-inch flags the day of our drive. Once again, thank you all. Frank Featner President

It’s a big, beautiful bill

To the editor: Three words that’ll guarantee gnashing of teeth and pulling of hair for Democrats: Big, beautiful bill. Not one Democrat voted for it. Democrats are against closed borders, tax reduction, rooting out fraud, waste, freeloaders, no tax on tips or overtime, etc. Remember this anytime Democrats want your vote. Democrats claim tens of thousands of people will die because of this bill. Let’s give it a year; if that many die, I will apologize for saying you’re stupid; if not, then you just proved the point. One word that destroys Democrats’ thinking: Trump. Since ...

Not a time to be silent

To the editor: Two days after writer and speaker Caroline Myss, who had an unbearable trip to Moscow to engage at a conference for healing, peace and kindness, returned, she started whining to an elderly man seated next to her about all of the hardships she had faced on her journey — delayed flights, hotel reservations canceled and having to sleep on a stranger’s floor. When she was done, the elderly man was silent for a moment and then introduced himself as someone who worked with the Dalai Lama. He said gently that they both believed that when a lot of difficult and chaotic ...

Why free period products matter

To the editor: Many of us take for granted the ability to manage our health and hygiene with dignity. But for countless women and girls in Jefferson County, access to basic menstrual products is a monthly struggle. That is why our local library’s new initiative to provide free period products is more than just a convenience. According to recent census data, more than 20 percent of women in Jefferson County live below the poverty line. In fact, the largest demographic living in poverty is females between the ages of 45 and 64, followed by females between the ages of 12 and 24. ...

We can’t be weak

To the editor: An unpopular opinion, which I posted as a comment on social media. The person was complaining, rather bitterly, about Fourth of July fireworks causing issues for people with PTSD and other emotional problems: “I’m sorry you have this issue, and it’s not that I’m unsympathetic, but there have been many, many people with PTSD and other problems for many, many years. They just courageously dealt with July 4, because they realized they were in the minority, and didn’t expect everyone else to kowtow to their own, personal issues. “So, they — ...
