Legion Auxiliary event was special
To the editor:
On Dec.11, members of American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 33 held their annual Christmas party for our American veterans residing in our nine local nursing homes.
They were served a luncheon, and they were entertained by line dancers, a group of ukulele players and the children from the Wells Academy. They sang Christmas carols, and even did a song in sign language. Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus gave the children a candy cane filled with candy on their way back to school.
Steubenville Police Chief Ken Anderson and many of his officers; also Chief Robert Ribar of the city’s fire department and many of his firefighters; and Jefferson County Sheriff Fred Abdalla and a deputy came. All of our first responders helped get the veterans out of the vans, and they helped serve them their dinners, helped with their drinks and sat and talked with them. They even stayed to help get them all back into their vans. Of course, we served all of the first responders dinner if they wanted it.
The veterans were so appreciative, as was the Auxiliary. We want to thank our veterans for their great service to our wonderful country, and to our first responders for all their help. We do so appreciate it. Thanks to Julie Stenger, community editor of the Herald-Star and The Weirton Daily Times — she always comes through for us.
Also, thanks to our Auxiliary ladies — we couldn’t do what we do without all of you.
