CRAIG PETRELLA

Craig A. Petrella, 73, an esteemed member of the community, passed away of natural causes on May 7, 2024. He was born April 19, 1951 in Steubenville. A graduate of Steubenville High School’s class of 1969, Craig’s determination and work ethic were evident from his youth, qualities that would define his professional and personal life.

Craig’s career was marked by dedication and service, having retired from Weirton Steel as the Director of Training Development and later serving as the Regional Safety Director at Apex Environmental. His commitment to public service shone through during his tenure as a Steubenville City Councilman through the 80’s-90’s and 2017-2021 , where he worked tirelessly for the betterment of his hometown. Craig’s passion for his heritage was reflected in his active involvement with the Sons of Italy, and he took immense pleasure in celebrating and sharing his Italian heritage, especially through cooking.

Craig’s warm and impressionable nature left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege to know him. Survived by his sons, Anthony and Ralph both of Steubenville; daughters, Theresa (Jon) Burchfield of Weirton and Candice (Scott) Petrella-Wright of Follansbee; brother John (Roberta) of Bridgeport; sister-in-law Margaret Petrella; dear friend Vikki Hasak; the mothers of his children Anna Galownia and Shirley Ayers and his adored eight grandchildren, Brent, Brian, Jason, Anthony, Sean, Madison, Craig, Mary Sue, and three great grandchildren, two nephews and one niece.

Craig was preceded in death by his father, Ralph and mother, Theresa (Torcasio) Petrella; and brother, Thomas Petrella. Craig will be deeply missed and forever remembered as a beacon of light to all who knew him.

Visitation will be held Monday from 3-7 pm at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. A funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 am at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Burial will take place at a later date.
