JOHN GALLAGHER

A son of the late Harold and Helen Geddess Gallagher Savage, he was born July 31, 1947 in Canton, Ohio.

John was a graduate of Carrollton High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Army, spending time in Vietnam. He was retired from Grodhaus Frabricating in Waynesburg. He was a life member of the Amsterdam VFW, where he had served as Quartermaster, and twice he had served as District Commander for the VFW District 6.

John was a great man who served his community and the local veterans for many years. His dedication and loyalty to his veterans and his family was unmatched.

His never serious personality was obvious by his name of Grandpa Honey. Anytime anyone would ask him how he was,his answer was “SWELL” with that big smile. He will be sadly missed by many.

John is survived by his wife, the former Emma Johnson, five children, Johnny (Georgia) Gallagher, Scott (Celeste) Gallagher, Jennifer (Mike) Roknich, Mike (Jeanne) Baker, Bobbie (Wayne) Mox; ten grandchildren, Christine, Jessica, Ryan, Justine, Claire, Mackenzie, Johnny III, Scotty, Joel, Emily; a great grandchild, Everly; two brothers, Jim Gallagher and Kevin Gallagher; and a sister, Jane Snead.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his step-father, William Savage, and three brothers, Dennis, Charles, and David.

Funeral services for John will be Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at 2 p.m. in Dodds Funeral Home of Amsterdam. Visitation will be from noon until time of services in the funeral home. Following the services there will be full military honors.
