Creek falls in Buckeye 8 title game

MINGO JUNCTION — Barnesville scored nine runs in the final three innings to pull away from Indian Creek in the Buckeye 8 Championship on Thursday evening.

Indian Creek (17-5) got an RBI from Luke McVicker in the third inning to tie the game before the Shamrocks (16-4) powered away.

The game was battle of state ranked teams as Creek entered the week No. 4 in Division III and Barnesville No. 6 in Division V.

The Redskins will look to bounce Saturday when they take on another ranked opponent, Div. VI No. 3 Hiland.

Oak Glen tops Bellaire

BELLAIRE — The Oak Glen baseball team went on the road Thursday and topped Bellaire 5-2 to reach double digits in the win column.

The Bears (10-18) got a pinch-hit RBI double Kaden Dragisich, two hits from Camm Dittman and an RBI each from James Rohbeck and Chistian Chappell.

Luke Buckler struck out six in four innings on the mound, while Chappell went the last three innings and got the win in relief.

Oak Glen visits Union Local on Monday.

Bruins blank Seminoles

WELLSBURG — The Brooke baseball team made it wins in three-straight games and six of their last eight, blanking visiting Monroe Central Thursday evening at home 10-0.

The Bruins (13-17-1) got a triple, single and an RBI from Zac O’Mery, a double, single and three RBIs from Andrew Murdock, a double, single and an RBI from Dustin Engle, two hits and two RBIs from Aiden Lathem and two RBIs from Geno Provenzano.

Murdock was the winning pitcher, striking out eight and walking three in a complete game.

Brooke takes on Shenandoah on Tuesday.

Edison falls in close battle

CARROLLTON — The Edison baseball team’s comeback came up just short against Carrollton on Thursday as the Wildcats fell 4-3 in a battle of state ranked teams.

Edison (12-6, No. 8 Div. V) fell behind the Warriors (14-8, No. 20 Div. IV) 4-1 in the third inning but battled back within a run in the sixth.

Nolan Haught had a double and two singles, Brady Haught had a double and an RBI, Bryce Rogers drove in a run and Kyle Long had a single and an RBI. Rogers struck out seven and walked just one, allowing just two earned runs on the mound.

Edison hosts Lake Center Christian today.

Big day for Central’s bats

STEUBENVILLE — The Catholic Central softball team got its bats going against Jefferson Christian on Thursday, pulling away for a 22-4 win.

The Crusaders had 25 hits in the win, ix of which went for extra bases. Nine different players had a hit, eight had multiple hits and eight different players had an RBI.

Maddie McEndree had three doubles, went 4 for 4 and drove in five runs; Alexis Lathem had a double, single and four RBIs; Mia Doyle blasted a homer, went 3 for 3 and had two RBIs; Mariam Free was 3 for 3 with two RBIs; Mary Fink had two hits and two RBIs; Evie Ziegler tallied four hits and three RBIs; R Fink had three hits and three RBIs; and Gracie Fink had a double and two singles.

Lathem struck out 10 for the win in the circle.

Central (2-19) hosts Southern Local today.

Edison grounds the Jets

RICHMOND — The Edison softball team pulled away from visiting Union Local on Thursday for an 11-1 run rule victory.

A six-run fifth inning brought about the early ending.

Maddie Cornell had a double, single and two RBIs, Abby Boka and Chloe Peckens had two hits and an RBI each, Boka hitting a double, and Sophia Henderson had two hits.

Bristol Leanza tallied four strikeouts and walked just one in the circle for the win.

Edison (16-9) hosts Martins Ferry today.
