Fritz “Fred” Wenzel
Fritz H. “Fred” Wenzel, 94, of Weirton passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2022.
Fred was born on December 23, 1927, in Carnegie, PA, the second of seven children born to Henry William and Mildred Rakowski Wenzel.
An Army sergeant, Fred married Frances DeFebbo Wenzel on August 6, 1955. In their marriage of over 66 years, Fred and Frances were blessed with two daughters, a son, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Fred provided for his family by driving a truck. He owned and operated his own truck and eventually drove for Weir Cove Moving and Storage for 13 years before retiring.
Fred loved to be outdoors and took immense pride in his garden. Only thing better than growing his plants and vegetables was sharing his harvest with friends, neighbors and the less fortunate.
Fred was a member of Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, The Holy Name, American Legion Post 10, AARP, and the Four Seasons, where he loved going on bus trips.
Most of all Fred will be remembered for his caring and kind nature. Many families in the Philippines where the benefactors of his kindness. He was a very generous and loving Po- Po to his family.
In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his brothers, John, David, and Robert; and his sister, Shirley Sciarrino.
He will be remembered with love by his wife, Frances; son, Fred; daughters, Kathy (Curtis) Guatteri Quattlebaum, and Donna (Ron) Cipriani; sisters, Connie Fancalski, and Rita Boyce; grandchildren, Jaime (Steve) Svokas, Brian (Gina) Guatteri, Shawn (Shawn) Amistade, Leah (John) Mullins, and Marco Cipriani; and great- grandchildren, Gianna Svokas, Sofia and Lily Amistade, Averi and Jack Mullins.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home. 3219 Main St., Weirton.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon on Wednesday at Saint Joseph the Worker Church, 229 California Ave., Weirton, WV.
Interment with military honors will follow at Saint Paul’s Cemetery.
